“Today is the day.” He tells himself. It is Christmas Eve, so it seems anyway. The young man readies himself for the day. Him and a girl a he knows have become good friends over the years, talking about nearly everything with each other, and did so nearly everyday. Today was going to be different. Today was going to be the day that he would finally draw up the courage to tell her how he really felt about their friendship and wanting it to be more than that. He knew that he would see her tonight at a Christmas Eve party that their parents put on every year at her house. Throughout the day he goes through what he is going to say, making sure not to bumble the words and make a fool out of himself. The day seems to go by in a blur, and before he knows it he as it her house playing a game of pool with her dad. “Now, all I have to do is find a way to talk to her privately.” Finally the opporunity presents itself, and he motions to her to step off to the side so he can ask her the burning question. The discussion he has is short, the question to the point, not needing to beat around the bush. She begins to give her answer, “Well this is what I think…” Wait..what has happened, the young man now sits up looking into blackness. He then realizes, with a pit in his stomach, that the whole thing was just conjured up with his mind, a tease. Frustrated and saddend, the man goes back to sleep, hoping that tomorrow, Christmas Day, is better.
